Yasaka Shrine

Yasaka Shrine is one of Kyoto’s most famous and historic Shinto shrines, located in the Gion district. With a history spanning more than a thousand years, it has long played an important role in the religious and cultural life of Kyoto.
The shrine is dedicated to Susanoo-no-Mikoto and other deities and is widely visited by people seeking blessings for good health, protection from misfortune, good fortune, prosperity, and relationships.
Yasaka Shrine is especially famous for the Gion Matsuri, one of Japan’s most celebrated traditional festivals. Held every July, the festival originated as a religious observance to pray for protection from epidemics and disasters.
The shrine is also closely associated with Kyoto’s Gion culture and attracts visitors throughout the year. Its distinctive vermilion buildings, traditional architecture, and lively atmosphere make it one of Kyoto’s most recognizable landmarks.
